Needed left hip replacement, September 2024. It had been bothering me for years prior to that, but I wasn't sure that surgery was the best solution. However, the range of motion, flexibility, and strength had all been seriously reduced so that 3 factors pointed to the need for hip replacement:1. I was unknowingly limping, alerted to it by my wife. 2. The discomfort was disrupting my sleep. 3. I was limited in tennis and surfing, and had I delayed surgery any longer I would have been excacerbating the joint deterioration.My extensive core exercise routine was no longer helping.
Even so, the decision to undergo hip replacement still was not easy for me. But after talking with friends, and consulting with Dr Kane, and especially aftér getting an x- ray & reviewing it with him I felt confident that hip replacement was the way ahead.
The preparation required prior to surgery was extensive, but necessary to ensure cleanliness and minimize the risk of infection. Additionally, learning what to expect and preparing in every detail for the hospital environment was essential.
The surgery on my left hip took longer than expected, because Dr Kane said "you had a lot more damage than what the x-ray showed." But it went well, and I was expecting nearly full recovery within 4-6 months. Dr Kane kept saying it may be 12,18,even up to 24 months in my case. And he was right. After nearly 20 months
I can now move well enough on the tennis courts to rejoin my friends in competitive play. And surfing remains a challenge but the pop=up maneuver is improving, much better than prior to surgery.
Ok, pretty long, but let me conclude by thanking the Lord for putting the Kane Orthopedic team in my life. His trusty, highly skilled nurses, Jane and Wendy, are worth their weight in gold! This entire episode in my life has gifted me with the world's very best prosthetic hip replacement, fully functional, returning me to several decades earlier in my 75 year life as far as movement, sleeping, and happiness. I am a very happy camper these days-- even back pain that plagued me prior to surgery has been all but eliminated. So thanks to Dr Kane, Wendy & Jane for their professionalism, care, and kindness. They are the best this world has to offer!

I saw Dr. Kane on 04/22/26 to have a second opinion for Rotator Cuff surgery with a different medical provider. Dr Kane made me feel at ease with the whole consulting session. It was easy to relate with Dr. Kane because his mannerism and being a fellow surfer that could relate to my injury. I would highly recommend seeing Dr. Kane for any of his services.

Firstly I want to thank Dr. Kane, Wendy and Jane for making this whole experience for me as comfortable as possible. I have never had surgery before and never did I expect to have a a torn meniscus in my knee but going to Dr. Kane made this journey a smooth ride. I wish that I went to him way sooner then I did. There is certain things are body cant tackle on its own. I feel so much better now that Dr. Kane did a Arthroscopy on my knee. Its really incredible the attention to detail he needs to perform a partial lateral meniscectomy on my knee. The whole experience was super comfortable at Queens, all I had to do was stay calm. I highly recommend his clinic and Dr. Kane is definitely the only Orthopedic Surgeon I will ever go to! Mahalo!!

Dr Kane replaced my left hip more than 25 years ago. It is still performing at the 100% level. In the wake of this surgery, I was able to resume hiking over rugged terrain and am able to climb trees, ladders, etc. I am rarely aware of the fact that I even have a hip replacement and am profoundly grateful for this surgery and the skill that went into it.

I enthusiastically recommend anyone that needs joint care to immediately make an appointment with Dr. Kane. He diagnosed the problem, that two other orthopedics missed. He performed a surgery that gave me back my ability to walk normally once again. He recently did my other side with the same results. His staff, Wendy and Jane are fantastic and I have never waited more than 10 minutes to see him for an appointment.

Well treated and my knee difficulty was explained clearly. Doctor and I both surf, so we swapped stories and had a few laughs together.

Dr. Kane, Jane and Wendy immediately put me at ease. I was apprehensive to find out what was giving me pain. They all were friendly and professional, yet kind and caring. Dr. Kane was like a breath of fresh air. Most doctors are professional but intimidating and lacking warmth. I felt like I knew Dr. Kane for years. It's odd to say, but this was a most enjoyable Doctor's visit.

Thomas Kane, is very likeable.. Great personality and staff. I had tendon come loose and he fixed them. 5 star.
The cartilage on my right need he suggested we work on. it was perfectly fine before the tendons came loose. It did not have to be done, but people who act as their own doctor have a fool for a patient, so I let him do the job.
My right has been hurting for years now. My right leg seems different. I now have to use a cane after seeing Dr. Kane. Is that why he has the name.. on right knee 1 star.
Using a cane has changed my life dramatically. I used to walk fast. Now hobble along after the operation that was questionable as it was not a problem before, Dr.Kane.

Dr Kane’s surgical skills and care for his patients is renowned even outside of Hawaii, and every person on his staff is top notch. You will be welcomed warmly when you arrive at Kane Institute at Queens. There’s never a crowd or long when we’re there. There are magazine covers and plaques for awards he has won in the spacious and comfortable waiting room and there’s almost always some kind of seasonal decoration to make it feel even more welcoming.
Although famous and top rated, Dr Kane is a relaxed and cordial person who gets to the heart of what each patient needs, explains simply and clearly what’s needed and welcomes any questions we might have. You would be given copies of all that transpired and any recommendations as well, and set up any further visits that are needed. Reminders of visits are always given by phone, text or email and are available on the My Chart Queens portal.
Dr Kane and his surgical staff at Queens are incredible. From the grandma in the family who needed knee surgeries to the grandson who was injured in a surf accident, he knows just how to relate to each and make the experience as comfortable and efficient as possible.
Top notch surgery sometime can cost more but we’ve saved for that over the years and are willing to pay more for the incredible service and ease we are provided at Kane Institute.

Always wonderful. Tom listens. I also forgot to thank Tom for his letter when I was in a dark place a few years ago. My goal is to walk without a cane I need a boot camp type therapist. I also ask for dental antibiotics from Longs 1030 King St
